Coach Rankin has been the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Dallas Center-Grimes High School for the past 9 seasons. Prior to coming to DC-G, Coach Rankin was an assistant for 4 years at Johnston High School and an assistant/teacher for 2 years at Urbandale High School.  He was fortunate to coach the 4A State Championship game at both schools.

Coach Rankin believes in striving to be the best in the classroom, in the community and on the court.  He believes the life lessons the kids learn through basketball and extra-curricular activities are immeasurable.

The slogan for DC-G Basketball is PLAY HARD, PLAY GREAT DEFENSE and PLAY TOGETHER.  BUILDING TRADITION and MAKING MEMORIES are things we talk about consistently.  We want the kids to have experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.  We are building tradition brick by brick.  The coaching staff is passionate about the game of basketball and dedicated to the continual development of aquality program.

The 2010-2011 Mustang Basketball Team had a record setting season.  Their 22 wins was the most in school history. They tied Carroll for the Conference Championship with a 15-1 record.  This is the 1st Conference Championship at DCG in 30 years.  The Mustangs also were able to make a repeat visit to Wells Fargo by defeating Ballard 56 to 28 in the Substate Championship.   The back to back trips to state are the only times that DCG has went to the state tournament in the history of the school.

The JV team posted a record of 9-8 and the Freshman squad finished 17-3.  The Middle School programs also had successful seasons.

“I am extremely proud of the Mustang Basketball Program and the strides we have made at all levels.  It is the result of the dedication and commitment of our players, coaches, administrators, parents and community members.  There is a tremendous amount of excitement and interest in DC-G Basketball.   I am looking forward to continuing the success with quality student-athletes that represent DC-G on and off the court with class and integrity.”

Assistant Varsity and Head JV Coach Lauck

Coach Lauck enters his 6th season as the assistant varsity and head JV coach at Dallas Center-Grimes. Prior to coming to DC-G, Coach Lauck was the head boy's basketball coach for 7 years at Marcus Community School, Marcus, Iowa. He also served one year as the assistant varsity coach at his home town in West Bend, Iowa.

Coach Lauck's philosophy is to prepare the boys for varsity basketball by focusing on fundamentals and keeping the offensive and defensive schemes the same as the varsity level.

For the last 2 seasons the team has finished above .500, which is a starting point for developing a winning attitude. Coach Lauck hopes to play an up tempo game, with lots of pressure on the ball that should produce an exciting style of play to watch.

Freshman Coach Jones

Coach Jones has served as the freshman boys basketball coach at Dallas Center-Grimes for four years.  He is also a 3rd grade teacher at the Grimes Elementary School.   Prior to coaching at Dallas Center-Grimes, Coach Jones taught and coached the 9/JV and served as the varsity assistant at Gurthrie Center.  He is originally from Jefferson and played basketball while attending Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.

Coach Jones’s goal is to prepare the freshman for Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball in the future by focusing on developing the basic offensive and defensive philosophies of the program.  He hopes to instill a mind for the game and an understanding of the importance of roles and the team philosophy.
